In its largest expansion in more than 20 years, the Monterey Bay Aquarium completed a four-story education center on Cannery Row aimed at broadening its marine science programs for thousands of children and teachers.
The new facility, called the Bechtel Family Center for Ocean Education, is located at the corner of Hoffman Avenue and Cannery Row on the site of a former warehouse used to stack pallets of sardine cans. It consists of five classrooms, solar panels on the roof, numerous video monitors and eight 200-gallon salt water tanks full of sea urchins, starfish, abalone, snails, anemones, kelp crabs and other marine species for kids to study. The aquarium, located three blocks down the street, only has two classrooms.

The B8ta Gatehouse is a retail TI project located at the Warriors Stadium in San Francisco. It is a free standing retail store situated next to the Esplanade of the stadium. While the shell was designed by Shop Architects, the interior design of the retail space was developed by Gensler.

A two-story speculative lab and office building situated on the western edge of Stanford Research Park within Palo Alto, California Street which is residential in character with single family homes fronting the western edge and Commercial Office/Lab buildings on the eastern edge.
The proposed building materials are Terracotta (Red & warm Grey), and clear Vision Glass. The proposed architectural scale, warm materiality and shadowed rhythms are crafted to be a comfortable addition to the residential neighborhood. The plan is to retain healthy existing trees in the California street frontage and along the perimeter. A welcoming entry sequence begins at the sidewalk featuring 3 clusters of public seating that lead to a tenant front door and arcade walkway along the buildings on the northern edge.

A spectacular rock outcropping peaks at the top of this steep Timber Cove site, with 120 degrees of panoramic views of the Pacific beyond the canopy below. Floats just above the landscape a curved cabin on piers steps down the hilly site, arching for beautiful sight lines and outdoor areas that maximize views in and along the whole structure. At the end of the timber framed cabin is a massive window-wall framing the rock peak and the view down the ridge of the outcropping that defines the site.
The linear roof covers two structures underneath, with in a large entry/ bathroom/ kitchen/ living/ dining space at the front end and the primary bedroom and bathroom at the other end, with covered open air seating area and a hot tub deck between the two structures, yet all under the long roof.
Smaller follies are also scattered at special moments across this intriguing site in a small guest cabin with ocean views, a sauna at the exposed bedrock base of the outcropping, an incline lift to easily traverse from the parking area up, and a few camping platforms for even more guests when occasions call for it.

A beautiful grove of trees becomes the floor plan of the cabin, as spread out rooms weave through the redwoods. Each space interacts with the topography of the ground, the trees and canopy above in a different nature and connection with the dense forest.

The Bloomingdale’s located in Palo Alto is a three-story free standing building with an atrium like green shopping space. The building is accessible from all four sides where a north-south cross axis divides the building into four quadrants. The unique site conditions allowed to develop a design with a strategically placed facade materials and entrances. Highly visible from the street and accessible from the shopping center.

T3 East is a significant part of the main Terminal 3 building – and the second wave of a phased series of renovations occurring at Terminal 3. The T3 East project includes an expanded building footprint, accommodating increased concessions, a variety of seating and dining options within view of the gates, and a United Airlines Club Lounge.
The look and feel of T3 East derives its inspiration from “atmosphere” – clouds and the experience of flying. A “recompose” zone just past security provides passengers a place to gather their belongings before continuing their journey. Retail and dining are freestanding under an expanse. A new “living room” concept provides alternative seating to further enhance the idea of productive wait time.
